D500 Mobile phone review
Announced in October 2004 by Samsung, and now available in the UK, the
Samsung D500 combines the very best of Samsung's techology in every field:
from cutting-edge TFT screen to megapixel digital camera to wireless connectivity.
The phone is aimed both at high-end business users and the technology-hungry
personal user market.
The memory available in the Samsung D500 is a whopping 80 Mbytes - more
than enough for storing videos and MP3 tracks, and enough for demanding
business users too. For example, the phone can store over 1,000 megapixel
images, 60 minutes of video, or up to 20 MP3 tracks.
The 1.3-megapixel camera not only allows users to take pictures, but
also gives them creative freedom with the availability of 10 embedded
special effects and emoticons. A groovy flash is also included on the
Samsung D500 so that you can take pictures in the dark or in rarely lit
areas. The significantly bright flash and digital linear zoom smoothly
catches the best moments to remember.
The Samsung D500 also supports video recording as well as plays back
video and MP3 files just like a PC with a full range of entertainment
options. Recording flexibility is offered with a 7x digital zoom for pictures
and 4x digital zoom for video. Fitted with a 60-minute recording capacity,
users will be able to capture more of nature's brilliance or life's experiences
and share the visions and memories in living color. Recording flexibility
is offered with a 7x digital zoom for pictures and 4x digital zoom for
video.
Synchronize your data with the Samsung D500 in seconds. Bluetooth, USB
and SyncML DS make it easy to connect to other phones, PDAs, laptops,
PCs, printers and, of course, to Samsungs Bluetooth accessories, and to
exchange data, pictures and video clips.
The Samsung D500 is a sliding phone - using the same construction as
the older models E800/E820 or E630. It resembles the look of the E630.
The sliding is fortunately, in contrary to the E630 with the plastic-to-plastic
friction, supported by a special mechanism. So just touch a protrusion
below the display, push a little and the upper part slides easily. The
phone gets closed in the same way.
The Samsung D500 also comes with some new features that have not been
seen before in Samsung phones. The built-in SMS filter is great. It allows
you to set up to 10 numbers from which you don't want to recieve messages.
If a message arrives from one of these numbers then it never gets displayed
nor does the sender get the sent report.
The Samsung D500 is a great phone. Stylish, sexy, the works and the quality
of the camera/camcorder is outstanding - with an excellent microphone
which picks up voices really clearly.
